Gonadotropin Supplements: The Next Big Thing?
It looks more and more like natural medical remedies are becoming the norm for people who are looking for new cures. The human body produces some excellent stuff and from that, fantastic new cures can be acquired. Lots of these pop up each and every year, but gonadotropin is one of the best, most comprehensive of them all. Scientists have found new uses for gonadotropin, which are protein hormones that come from the gonadotrophe cells in the body. A hormone directed at the women out there, this one is thought to help improve a person’s chances of getting pregnant.
What is Gonadotropin?
Gonadotropin comes from the pituitary gland in the human vertebrate column. The hormone is known to have a stimulating affect on the follicles, and is generally targeted for the testes or ovaries. There are two different types of the gonadotropin hormone. Human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) is a natural substance which is taken straight from the urine of women and purified. Recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (rFSH) is the lab-produced version of the hormone, and it has a similar affect. Gonadotropin contains both luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which are both essential in the process of getting pregnant.
Medical Uses of Gonadotropin
As mentioned before, the primary medical use of this hormone up to this point is in fertility. Women who struggle to get pregnant may be suffering from a lack of these important hormones. Since the technology exists to both extract and create this necessary hormone, labs have been experimenting with the idea. Thus far, women who have tried the artificial increase in the hormone have had excellent results with their pregnancies. They are becoming pregnant at a much higher rate and they are also having successful pregnancies at a higher rate.
Although much less common, this hormone is also used for men. In men, it increases testosterone and also helps with the production of sperm. The treatment for men is quite invasive and requires multiple injections of the hormone each week. Traditionally, this is a treatment that is a short-term boost as opposed to a long term solution.
